Itinerary

Welcome to Kathmandu(1,400m-4593ft), the city of temples. Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Nepal, one of our staff will receive you there. He will lead you to the hotel in a private vehicle.

Today, we will brief you about your package—Everest Base Camp Trek. Additionally, we will introduce you to your trek guide who will be with you throughout your trail in this beautiful region of Khumbu.

Well, your trekking begins from today but prior to that, we need to reach Lukla(2,860m-9383ft)—a gateway to EBC. The airplane is the best transportation mode to arrive in this beautiful town as road connectivity is still at large.

Blessed you are if the weather is clear because on a clear day you will witness several peaks of the Khumbu region from the comfort of the airplane. It is a scenic flight of nearly 35 minutes.

After arriving in Lukla(2,860m-9383ft), we will prepare for the trek, and Phakding(2,643m-8671ft) is our last destination for today. We arrange porters and recheck gears before proceeding. A flat walk of nearly 3/4 hour will bring us to Phakding. It is a small settlement with the majority of Sherpa people.

Early in the morning after breakfast, we proceed toward Namche Bazaar(3,440m-11286ft). It is a beautiful trail of nearly 7 hours including a lunch break. A walk of slightly over two hours will get us to Monjo(2,35m-9301ft)where we produce our trek permit. From here, we will be entering inside Sagarmatha National Park Area.

We will be walking along the bank of the Dudh Koshi river(milky river). It will lead us to a suspension bridge. The distant view of this suspension bridge is quite remarkable. A few more hours of a walk will bring us to Top Danda (Cannon Hill). This is probably the steepest climb of your life.

Keep ongoing and we will arrive at another checkpoint. Arrival here means you are closer to Namche Bazaar(3,440m-11286ft)—the largest commercial hub of the Khumbu region.

Namche Bazaar is naturally blessed. With the view of mountains especially minor peaks and greenery, the site will lure you a lot. The place is inhabited by Sherpa people where you can learn many things about them and their unique culture.

Yes, it is a rest day today but that does not mean you will remain an idol doing nothing in this naturally blessed destination. We will lead you to Everest View Hotel, 3,880m-12729ft and it will take you nearly two hours to get here. Visit the hotel will be a curtain-raiser for you to get an astounding view of the world’s tallest peaks—Mount Everest (8,849m-29032ft), Lhotse (8,516m-27939ft), Amadablam (6,812m-22349ft), Thamserku (6,608m-21679ft), Tabuchi (6,495m-21309ft), and Nuptse (7,861m-25790ft). On a clear day, the sight will rejoice in you and the moment is likely to be one of the best moments of your life.

Apart from the visit to the hotel, we will get you to the Sherpa museum where you will learn many things about these mountain people without whose assistance climbing Everest is next to impossible. Additionally, you can roam around on your own to experience this land of beauty and benediction.

Good Morning. Well, are you ready to proceed? Definitely yes, because the Khumbu region is so beautiful that every new destination while on the way to EBC has its own uniqueness and beauty.

Today we will be proceeding toward Tengboche(3,857m-12654ft). At first, we will follow a flat trail followed by a downhill trail until we arrive at Phugkitenga(3,250m-10662ft). Here we have our lunch and enjoy the flow of the Dudh Koshi river.

After crossing the suspension bridge built over the river, we head toward Tengboche(3,857m-12654ft). It is another steep trail of nearly three hours.

Tengboche(3,857m-12654ft) is popular for its monastery and it is the largest and oldest monastery of the entire Khumbu region. Moreover, the view of mountains that you get from this very site is truly mesmerizing. Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Thamserku are major mountains witnessed from here.

It is a walk of roughly six hours today. The trail to Dingboche(4,400m-14435ft) is quite rewarding as you will get a closer view of Mt. Everest(8,849m-29032ft), Lhotse(8,516m-27939ft), and Ama Dablam(6,812m-22349ft) along with the Imja river.

Oh yes, be careful please because this trail is also popular for some wild species such as snow leopard. Don’t worry no casualties are reported in the modern area of trekking. But do not let your sight off the guide.

Despite acclimatization, the excitement of the trek will not come to the end. On this day, we will take you to the best viewpoint (Nagrjun hill). It is at an altitude of 5,100m-16732ft. One of the key reasons to get you here is to unfold the scenic beauty of the Khumbu region.

Amadablam(6,812m-22349ft), Amphu Lapcha(5,663m-18579ft), Laboche peak(6,119m-20075ft), Island peak(6,189m-20305ft), Mt. Nuptse(7,861m-25790ft), Lhotse(8,516m-27939ft), Makalu(8,463m-27765ft), Baruntse(7,162m-23497ft ), Cholhaste, Thamserku, Kangtega and Tawache peak are major attractions of today.

Relatively, the hike today is short and rewarding as well. The trail is very easy until Thukla(4,600m-15091ft), it takes around 2 hours to reach Thukla. You can enjoy a great view of the Himalayas. After reaching Thukla we will take lunch and rest a few minutes there. We continue our trek to Lobuche(4,950m-16240ft). After lunch we start to climb uphill, it takes around one and a half hours to reach the top of Thukla pass (4,830m-15846ft). You can see a great view of Amadablam, Lobuche Peak, and the other Himalayas range also you can see a famous climber statue, who died on Everest. The walk from Thukla Pass to Lobuche is very easy, we will walk on a flat trail then we will reach our destination.

How exciting it is to imagine a day that makes your dream tangible. Isn’t it exciting? Yes, it is. Today, you will reach EBC via Gorak Shep(5,164m-16942ft). The trail to Gorak Shep from Lobuche is rough and rocky. The view of Pumori (7,145), Nuptse (7,745), Lingtren (6,697), and Mt. Everest are the major attractions of Gorak Shep.

On the same day, we hike to EBC and spend a couple of minutes here. We retrace the path to Gorak Shep where we will spend a blissful night.

It is going to be one of the longest hikes of the entire trek campaign. We will head toward Kala Patthar early in the morning to get a sunrise view. Here, you will be surrounded by mountains at 360 degrees. The view of Mt. Everest is majestic from here. After spending nearly an hour here, we proceed toward Pheriche. It will take us roughly 8 hours to get in Pheriche.

The trail today is relatively easy and we pass through Pangboche (3,985m-13074ft) and Tengboche to get in Namche Bazaar. Nearly a walk of six hours will get us to this commercial hub of the Khumbu region—Namche Bazaar.

Leaving the beauty of Khumbu behind, we proceed ahead to get to Lukla. We will be walking for nearly seven hours to arrive in Lukla and here ends our trip to Everest Base Camp.

In the evening we, Northern Trekking team, will offer you dinner. We want you to share your experience along with feedback on the trip so that we can improve ourselves.

We will try to catch the first flight to Kathmandu and this will get us to the capital by 8 am. From the airport, we will escort you to the hotel. You will have ample time to roam around Kathmandu.

Travel Insurance

For everyone who will plan to Trek in Nepal, it is highly recommended that you get travel insurance that covers added expenses that might result due to various health issues, injuries, or accidents (together with the ambulance, helicopter rescue, and other treatment costs). Your insurance policy should cover the entire activities that you are planning to accomplish throughout your stay in Nepal.

In addition to this, the policy should also cover death, misplaced luggage, theft and liability, cancellations, medical treatment (counting hospital charges, cost of the medicine, doctor’s fees) as well as repatriation costs. Also, this trekking trail in Nepal takes you 5,000 m above the altitude, therefore, you also need to ensure that your insurance policy covers treks that go over 5,000 m.

We suggested that you buy your insurance policy from your home country before joining us, where it is difficult buying a local travel insurance policy for foreigners in Nepal.

Domestic Flight Information

Share this:

Generally, the Everest region has to use Twin Otter and Dornier primary modes of transport to and from the airstrip. Since you are trekking in the geographically as well as climate-wise the most difficult part of the world, it is natural that flights get canceled. Mountain weather conditions or technical issues are something we cannot predict. In case of cancellation of flights, we can hire a helicopter for you to maintain your schedule. A helicopter facility can only be provided if our clients agree to pay the extra charges. Unwanted to say, the helicopter takes 4 to 6 passengers at a time and the cost can be shared amongst the passengers. We would like to repeat that in case the helicopter service is required, the trekkers must pay the cost. We can help you prepare documents you need to submit to the travel insurance company for reimbursement. Please be informed that the Twin Otter and Dornier aircraft allow only 15kgs as the weight limit. This weight is equal to 33 Pounds. This weight includes both your duffel bag and daypack. This means you need to pack and prepare your luggage wisely. We suggest you not exceed the limit to avoid an additional cost of USD 2 to USD 5 per kg.
